5 Most Popular Faults in Contraception

Wear condomsEvery now and again I’ll get a request from someone wanting me to blog about this or that or who knows what. There are even companies that’ll pay people to blog about their products and services. One time BetUs.com paid me $150 to post a banner linking to their site. Took me all of 20 seconds and I posted three, but I still only got $150. Sure wish they’d call me back.

The other day I got another request. In a past life I probably would’ve ignored it, but after having a child and fully understanding what it means to be a parent, why not post this request. I have a lot more friends who are single parents or have only one parent than homes with both parents. And a lot of times this isn’t because things just work out; it’s because it was an accident. Not a mistake per se, but an accident.

How Much Do You Know About Birth Control?

In a recent Washington City Paper article about contraceptives, the topic was brought to light about our [we men] ignorance when it comes to birth control. Apparently we think the vaginal ring is equivalent to a magic wand and wearing two condoms is more effective than wearing just one. Well, isn’t it?

Seriously, how does a vaginal ring work? As I was reading the article, I started asking myself how much I knew about birth control methods, other than the most effective and least used — abstinence. And really, I’m still not sure if condoms are made out of sheepskin or latex.

And who’s Jimmy anyway?

Virginia is for Lovers [Just Turn Off The Lights]

Virginia is for LoversMe? Move to Virginia? Everyone who knows me knows better than to even assume I would even consider it! Virginia? Seriously?

Now, I have a ton of friends in VA. I mean, it is just across the river. Virginia, though, just isn’t Washington, DC. And of course that’s why a lot of my Virginian friends won’t live in DC. I work, live and play in DC and like to [more like have to] be able to do everything I need to do without jumping on the highway, a parkway, a pike or a toll road.

What If Life Had A Reset and Undo Button?

Birth Control PillsIn the book I’m currently reading [The Company by Robert Littell, a rare moment when I'm reading a novel] there’s a scene in which one of the characters says, “life is an accumulation of small mistakes.” She gets questioned if she implying something, then she clarifies by saying, “I have concluded that the problem is not so much the accumulation of small mistakes but the big ones we make trying to correct them.”

What if there was a way we could go back and correct our mistakes, big and small? Like the day we decided to skip class with our “friends” only to forgot about a test or presentation. Or when we lied to our parents about some of our habits, not knowing they already knew. Or when we broke up with such-and-such, or turned him/her down, and found ourselves with a loser. Or when we spoke out the wrong name while we were, well, “If You Seek Amy.”

How much different would life be if we knew that when we made a mistake, there was a reset button? Or an undo button? We’d probably take more chances. I know I would and I already take too many as it is.

DC’s HIV/AIDS Epidemic Is Media Fodder

Who do you know that exaggerates everything he/she says? From how happy he/she is in a relationship or at work, to how expensive his/her clothes really cost when you saw them at Marshall’s on a sale day, to the person who fronts like they make dough when they’re really paycheck-to-paycheck, to the person who slept with more people than they really have…

They should get jobs as journalists. This isn’t to say that journalists lie, but they have a way of taking facts and twisting the truth for shock value [more like for advertising dollars]. I’m still trippin’ over how Fox used a clip of me talking about turning down drinks at the Pink Slip Party [the video isn't online anymore] instead of anything else I said about the job market and the talent at the event!
