Calling All IT Professionals — We’re Hiring!

It’s been two weeks now and things are starting to slow down enough at the new gig that I can see what I need to work on. I’m shedding old habits from recruiting locally for underpaying temp jobs and starting to grasp this whole nationwide high end technical IT sourcing concept.

I have been handed over 40 reqs [open job orders] spanning the country. Oracle and SQL Server DBAs; IT Business Process Analysts [PMP]; Tivoli Storage Managers; Systems and Software Engineers; UX Designers; Application Software Developers; Java/J2EE Developers; Mobile App Developers; PeopleSoft Federal HRMS Developers; Sr. SharePoint Developers; everything but photofinishing developers [that was a past life of mine]. Chicago, Brooklyn, Boca Raton, Austin, Columbus, Herndon, Raleigh, Monterey, Auburn Hills, St. Louis, Lansing, Clearfield, Jacksonville, San Diego, Miami — thank goodness I passed 8th grade U.S. Geography class!

I am Recruiter — Job Openings

You’ll only receive blog postings about job openings and can one-click unsubscribe once you found a job.

So, if you are an IT professional; if you know any IT professionals; if you know someone who may know someone who’s an IT professional — send me their resume! And then be sure to connect with me on LinkedIn where I also will post openings.

Some [but nowhere close to most] of the positions I’m recruiting for I post on another blog. Unless someone visits the site everyday, I recommend just subscribing to the newsletter by clicking the link to the right.

Please do email/forward this to everyone you know. If you don’t know anyone in IT then perhaps your people do. Though I won’t be able to contact everyone, it sure helps to have their resume before their ideal job becomes open and I’m already sourcing people from the job boards.

Why Aren’t Job Seekers Using LinkedIn?

Social media is slowing becoming the preferred method to communicate. We used to call each other. Then we sent emails. We text way more than we talk now, but Facebook and Twitter has created the most efficient way to echo our inner thoughts to any in the world 24 hours a day.

It’s not an evil thing. It’s just new and some people get it, some don’t. Some abuse it, get abused by it while others run as far away from it as they can.

Ironically, we’re in a time with high unemployment, a disproportionate amount of talented people looking for work and an understanding that networking is the fastest way to find a new job, yet I don’t get as many requests to connect on LinkedIn, which essentially is designed just for that. There aren’t any photo albums to show off your tan from a recent vacation, a game where killing people makes you the hero nor an environment which encourages you to share with the world what you’re cooking tonight. Then again, those aren’t the things you’d share to get a job.

If You Know Someone Looking For Work…

A very passionate interviewee

After my first week at Manpower, I must say it feels good to be back in my domain. Though I was getting good at changing a diaper without getting shizzle on my clothes and making a bottle with one hand while holding Najwa with the other, it really was time to get back to work. And I thank Nduku for being patient with me not immediately looking for work after TSi laid me off. Definitely an experience every dad should go through.

So, I’m getting my feel down for how the office runs. There are some minor tweaks to how Manpower runs relative to previous agencies where I worked, but for the most part I think I got it. I do have to pause when answering the phone to make sure I don’t answer it saying TSi Staffing. Actually, I have this tendency to want to say Monster!

Click here for more posts about EmploymentBut there is one thing that hasn’t changed. The overwhelming number of people who call looking for a job, the number of people who walk by [we're street level] and decide to walk in and ask for a job, and of course the number of people who are referred to me from siblings, parents, children, neighbors, former co-workers and even former significant others. And it’s a beautiful thing to see how intense people are in wanting to help someone they know, but I would like to take a moment to give some advice to the referrers and the referred…

Is Applying Online Lazy?

Applying OnlineOk, maybe I wasn’t being fair when I said people who apply for jobs online are being lazy. My friend Kathy brought it to my attention, mentioning that even when you do get out the pad and attend a job fair, companies say, “go to the website and apply online.” And then don’t let it be one of those online applications that takes about an hour to fill out!

For clarity purposes anyone who doesn’t get off their duff and network, collect business cards and knock down doors is being lazy. Of course applying online will always be a part of finding employment. But if your plan to getting a job is applying to a couple dozen jobs online and calling it a day, I’d recommend you get a brand new computer and keyboard because you’re going to have a long way to go.
