It seems a lot of my people from across the country know who Michelle Rhee is. From Oprah to the cover of Time magazine to being featured in the documentary “Waiting for Superman,” Rhee has become a celebrity for education wonks, only to get wacked by Washington, DC’s incoming mayor Vincent Gray.
But 99 percent of my people who don’t live in DC [and probably some who do] don’t know who Cathy Lanier is. In a majority African American city, there were some concerns when Lanier was appointed the police chief by Soon-To-Be-Former-Mayor Adrian Fenty. Because Lanier is white. And female. And did you know that she at the age of 15, she dropped out of high school in the 9th grade and was expecting a child?
