This Song Makes Me Feel Like Dancing

Yo Gabba GabbaMy homeboy Eric and I were talking about the stuff our daughters watch on TV. From Team Umizoomi to the Wonder Pets, it’s amazing how we [grown @ss men] can talk about these shows as if we were talking about the latest episode of Fringe or Shameless.

Each morning, though, it’s The Wiggles that start the morning. When I first started [against my will] watching them, I wasn’t much of a fan. Then again, I wasn’t a fan of any of Najwa’s shows. I actually found a bunch of them straight scary. Dora and Diego are cool, but Yo Gabba Gabba is eerie. And Dirt Girl gives me the creeps with those huge eyes and weird looking smile.

Anyway, one song The Wiggles perform with Leo Sayer [at first I thought it was Richard Simmons!] has grown on me. I confess, I kind of like it…

Obviously I Would’ve Failed as a TV Critic

I’ve never really been a TV series person. There was a time I didn’t even own a TV for a couple of years until my homeboy Desmond Carter gave me a hand-me-down. It was a old school, reg def, JC Penney branded two ton box that refused to let any universal remote control it. But I then went months at a time without cable.

But, with the little one changing my priorities of going out as often as my bank account would let me, I started watching more TV. Then we got a DVR so I could experiment and record stuff that seemed interesting. My first year actually watching TV shows regularly, and four of them get cancelled.

Who’s The Victim in The Wire’s Last Season?

City Paper cover featuring The WireFor the past several years, the most captivating show on TV has been HBO’s The Wire. It’s better than “24.” And “American Idol.” And whatever else is out there. Not only is it entertainment, it’s uncut, unfiltered, about as real as people get and it’s based on not only the city of Baltimore, but the issues facing American cities everyday.

Recently there was a cover story in the City Paper about the show, but it’s not a raving review. Instead it questions why The Wire isn’t the same show it was when we first learned about it. Writer Mark Athitakis goes into details about why the final season of The Wire, when we’re expecting a lot of questions to be answered and more shockers [like the death of Prop Joe], is turning out to betray the viewers just as everyone in the show seems to be betraying everyone else.
